ABIS Cloud Trends: Part 4

Better operational focus and a smoother budget cycle were not the only benefits our interviewees mentioned. Cloud ABIS changeover also produced other improvements.

First time we actually have both a Disaster Recovery and a Test capability. That alone was fantastic, and we didn’t have to find extra floor space for it.
— Cloud ABIS Customer
  • Disaster Recovery and Testing were smooth and easy in the virtual environment, and were supported by the cloud provider at minimal expense instead of needing extra space and hardware.

  • Patches and updates could be tested and installed and audits conducted without interrupting operations.

We found connection from our network to the cloud is CRITICAL. So be really aware of what to use to hook to the cloud, and know how it is configured.
— Cloud ABIS Customer

Effective mission-critical operations must guarantee a fast, reliable connection to the cloud. All the major secure cloud providers have preferred solutions here, but customers can choose to test them against a least-cost standard VPN solution. One of our interviewees did a performance-based comparison between the least-cost VPN solution and the vendor’s recommended connection option and found that of ~20,000 transactions, 100% went through successfully with the vendor solution, compared to ~99.95% via VPN. The vendor solution was faster, but the biggest benefit of going with the vendor-recommended connection was in mitigating potential worst-case scenarios.
